Serena Williams came through her toughest test yet at this year's US Open as she beat Simona Halep in three sets to reach her 33rd Grand Slam semi-final.
Williams dropped her first set of the tournament but still proved too strong for fifth seed Halep with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win in two hours and 14 minutes.
Williams said: 'I didn't have to be too amped up [to play Halep] because it's the quarter-finals and it's a tough player. I just knew I needed to be ready.
