Dar es Salaam, 29th November 2023 - The Chair of the Board of Directors of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, Retired President of the United Republic of Tanzania, along with GPE’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Laura Frigenti, are set to participate in a significant roundtable discussion today at the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) Tanzania offices in Dar es Salaam.

According to Ms. Anna Sawaki, CAMFED Tanzania’s Director of Programs and Partnership, the primary objective of the roundtable is to collectively emphasise the importance of prioritising education on the political agenda.

Additionally, she said, the event aims to recognise the pivotal role of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in advocating for education and actively contributing to policy dialogue within local education groups.

“The roundtable will also provide an opportunity for CSO representatives to share their successful practices and experiences in supporting the transformation of education systems”, Ms Sawaki explained.

Among the CSOs expected to attend the roundtable are HakiElimu, PESTALOZZI, Shule Direct, UWEZO, Ubongo Kids, Lyra in Africa, World Vision, Binti Salha Foundation, TEN/MET, TEM/MET, CAMFED, CAMFED Tanzania, Transforming Life Tanzania, and Gender Networking (TGNP).

The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is  the largest global fund exclusively dedicated to reshaping education in lower-income countries. Operating as a unique, multi-stakeholder partnership, GPE works towards delivering quality education to ensure that every child, regardless of gender, has access to hope, opportunity, and agency.

For the past two decades, GPE has been actively disbursing funds and providing support to develop robust and resilient education systems in countries marked by extreme poverty or conflict. The focus is on enabling more children, particularly girls, to receive the education necessary for personal growth and contribution to building a more prosperous and sustainable world.

GPE's distinctive model has played a pivotal role in helping partner countries make significant strides in enhancing access, learning outcomes, and equity, resulting in improved educational opportunities for millions of boys and girls.

On the other hand, CAMFED, a pan-African movement, is leading a revolutionary approach to delivering girls' education. Through a gold-standard system of accountability to the young people and communities they serve, CAMFED has established a model that significantly improves the prospects of girls becoming independent and influential women.

CAMFED's work is driven at the grassroots level by local committees and teams comprising graduates, teachers, parents, government officials, and other volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to ensure more girls successfully complete their education. The organisation’s governance structures include the boards of each national entity.

The roundtable represents a significant collaboration between GPE and CAMFED, bringing together key stakeholders and CSOs to reinforce the collective commitment to advancing education, particularly in regions facing the most pressing needs. This collaborative effort aligns with GPE's mission of transforming education systems and CAMFED's dedication to revolutionising girls' education across Africa.
