Barcelona paraded the Spanish Liga trophy through the streets of the city on Sunday night and were greeted by more than 100,000 flag-waving supporters.

There were celebrations on the streets of the Ciudad Condal on Saturday night after Barcelona's 3-0 win over Granada made sure they won the title.

And after the players flew back from Granada they celebrated at a private party but 24 hours later the fans and their stars came together for one big street party.

Players posed for a team photo in front of the bus that would then take them through the streets. Many donned sunglasses after a night of celebration and they all wore the 's'ha demonstrat' t-shirt with the Catalan phrase 'it has been demonstrated'.

The 'we showed them' sentiment of that message was more poignant than ever after they were made to sweat for their 24th league title.

'They had to win it twice,' said some commentators after their 13-point lead was cut to just one going into the last weekend of the season. They held their nerve with that Luis Suarez hat-trick, however, and his name was shouted from the streets by young and old during the celebration of what has been dubbed 'La Liga de Suarez' - Suarez's league.

There were hundreds of supporters to see them leave Barcelona's port in the late afternoon sunshine and there would be thousands more lining the streets as the bus crawled along on the 90 minute journey towards Avenida Rius y Taulet. Gerard Pique placed the league trophy carefully on the front of the open top bus and players who had celebrated the night before in the city's sea-front W Hotel with wives and girlfriends.

The players still have another game to play – next week's Spanish Cup final against Sevilla will give them the chance to do the domestic double. And perhaps because the season's work is still not done celebrations atop the bus were relatively restrained.

Players took photos of themselves alongside the trophy and took turns to wave from the front of the bus with Suarez manning that particularly position for a large part of the 90 minute journey.

Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique were less visible on the top deck and when supporters speculated that they had actually got off the bus, club officials confirmed they were eating in the lower deck.

Also eating, but on the top deck, was Neymar tucking in to what appeared to be a hamburger. Dani Alves clutched a can of beer, meanwhile, and put on a Mexican wrestling mask covered in Barcelona club badges.

A sea of Barcelona flags greeted the bus as it reached its final destination and the ticker-tape blower on the top deck went into overdrive. 'It's here,' said Pique as he pointed down at the silver pot that Barcelona have now won six times in the last eight years.

Their domination of the 21st century in Spanish football continues despite the best efforts of Real Madrid and their neighbours Atletico Madrid who can at least take consolation in preparations for the Champions League final in two weeks' time.
