Van Gaal's sacking was finally confirmed by Manchester United on Monday night, two days after the Dutchman led the club to their first piece of major silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.
Van Gaal spent eight hours at United's Carrington headquarters on Monday as the club thrashed out a compensation package that will see the Dutchman net £5.4million after being axed two years the three-year contract he signed in 2014.
Van Gaal was joined by the same QC who assisted David Moyes in settling the terms of his departure in April 2014.
The 64-year-old former Holland manager has been left angered by the manner of his Old Trafford departure and feels undermined by Woodward, who two days earlier had been congratulating Van Gaal on his FA Cup success.

Van Gaal blames the United chief after his finest hour as United boss during two underwhelming seasons in charge was ruined by the news of Mourinho's imminent appointment.
That is why he went into the meeting with top QC Paul Gilroy and why it took time to agree his terms before two statements were issued at 8.30pm on Monday night.
Confirmation of Van Gaal's sacking was delayed until the evening to allow the Dutchman to leave the country and jet off to his holiday home in Portugal, an agreement made with Woodward.
Mourinho will be handed a sizeable transfer budget at United and could target Chelsea's Nemanja Matic
Everton and England defender John Stones, pictured in action against Turkey, is another transfer target
Mourinho will be handed a £200m transfer kitty to turn Manchester United's squad into one that can compete at the top of the Premier League.
The Portuguese boss could raid his former club Chelsea for midfield enforcer Nemanja Matic. The Serbian would cost around £25m.
He is also likely to challenge Manchester City for the signature of England defender John Stones, who he attempted to sign last while at Stamford Bridge but saw three bids rejected by Everton last summer.
Stones, who has suffered a dip in form this season but remains one of the most sought-after young centre backs in Europe, would command a fee in the region of £45m.
Mourinho could try and tempt Real Madrid's French defender Raphael Varane away from the Bernabeu. The 23-year-old was taken to the Spanish capital by Mourinho in 2011.
Meanwhile, Juan Mata faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford. Within six months of Mourinho arriving at Chelsea for his second spell at the club, Mata was sold to United for £37m.The Spaniard had won the Chelsea player of the year award in the previous two seasons but Mourinho quickly decided that Mata would not feature prominently in his plans.
